Magic Moments with...
Enchanted Studio Scraps

an exclusive interview with Enchanted Studio Scraps owner and designer

interview by Claus-Dieter
written by Alice Koh

Trish Heffner

owner & designer

Q:: Enchanted Studio Scraps was established not too long ago. Can you tell us exactly when it opened?
Trish::
Enchanted Studio Scraps opened January 15th of this year.

Q:: Can you tell us how did you get to this name and what kind of concept is behind it?
Trish::
Enchanted Studio Scraps came about when two friends and myself were speaking on what we were going to name the new site. We knew that we wanted to have a fairytale, magical, sparkly theme. We were naming off “magical” names and came up with the name ‘Enchanted’. We were trying to think up of what we were going to put with ‘Enchanted’ [laugh] and the only thing that flowed was ‘Enchanted Studio Scraps’. So that’s kind of how the name came along.

Q:: Tell us what kind of challenges that you faced to open a new store?
Trish::
In opening the Enchanted Studio Scraps, the most challenging part was getting the site up and running all together. The shop, the forum, and the gallery… when the gallery worked, the forum didn’t work. When the forum worked, the shop didn’t work! So we had about a month of trial and error, testing everything out and getting everything running on the same page [laugh].

Q:: You’re saying ‘we’. How many people are involved?
Trish::
I am the sole owner of the site. The original plan was partnering with two friends. They helped with the planning in the beginning.

Q:: Do you seek professional assistance on the technical side or do you have someone on the team as well?
Trish::
I seek mostly outside help. Our site is maintained by Web Seitler Design. My husband is a Network Engineer and also helps here and there with technical issues.

Q:: Who is doing the day to day work such as promotions, answering e-mails, working on the financial aspect of the site… are they all done by you?
Trish::
Yes, I do everything. I do have a great team of ctm’s (Creative Team Members)and moderators for our site but as far as e-mails, customer service, designers and the shop goes, I manage all of that.

Q:: Is this your full time occupation or do you do this part time?
Trish::
I do it alongside what I currently do it here at home. I’m a secretary for my husband who runs a local computer network company. I do this along with taking care of our two children and helping him with his business. This started out as a hobby but has become more of a job for me. One that I love to do.

Q:: I trust that you must be very busy then?
Trish::
I am very busy [laugh]

Q:: Tell me… you have a part time job as a secretary and then you have your own store which you managed mostly on your own, how many hours a day do you have in California?
Jenny::
[both laugh] I spend about 4 hours from the time I get up in the morning at 7:00 doing all of my e-mails and ...
