Easter

Christians give up something, usually a food or a bad habit, which sometimes leads to giving something up for good. Most Christians celebrate Easter by attending morning church services. Each year, my mother would make my sister and I a brand new matching Easter dresses to wear to church, along with white gloves and a cute Easter hat. I promised my girls when they were young, that I would not make them wear hats or gloves, but they have always enjoyed wearing their new Easter dresses to church.

Easter has become a very commercial holiday during the last 50-75 years, celebrated by giving cards and gifts and by visits from the “Easter Bunny”, a character who mythically brings baskets of goodies to children during the night. I can hardly remember a year when I did not receive some kind of chocolate bunny shaped confection and a stuffed animal or plastic eggs filled with candy in my Easter basket. Jelly beans would fill up our baskets, along with Marshmallow Peeps, a favorite treat around my house.

Around the week of Easter, most North American schools take a week or two off for vacation, usually called “Spring Break.” College students flock to the south in search of a good time in the sun, and a welcome break from studying.

In the world of digital scrapbooking, we celebrate Easter with fun and colorful kits. We are featuring some fabulous new kits here at The Daily Scrapper, along with some of the cutest new layouts this year. Dress up your spring and Easter layouts with fun pastels, bright spring colors, and some of the cutest spring elements by checking out our featured products.

Easter also brings the hope of all things being reborn, such as the spring season brings new growth of trees and flowers, making the whole earth look new.

In the USA and Canada, Easter is celebrated in a variety of ways, including coloring eggs, hiding eggs, filling Easter baskets, exchanging gifts, and sharing large family meals. In some Scandinavian countries, the children collect candy from neighbors in exchange for a few decorated items. In some European countries, a fire is set at sunset to help chase the winter away. Most English speaking countries decorate eggs and celebrate with candy. Butter molded into the shape of a lamb is a popular Easter treat in Poland.

Easter brings the end of Lent, a 40 day period where ...
