Scrappers' Easter |

As a Christian, Easter has always been an important holiday to me and my family. In Kentucky where I grew up, Easter usually meant a gentle warming with sunshine and spring air. I would always get a new dress to wear to Church and sometimes it would even have a matching hat! Easter brings to mind a beautiful palette of colors such as teals, purples, pinks and yellows. And of course, the Easter Bunny used to visit me and leave yummy treats such as chocolate bunnies and marshmallow peeps! I try to continue these same traditions with my own children. Easter still includes going to Church, Easter egg hunts, and Easter Baskets. Easter has always been about celebrating the resurrection of Christ. Even as a child, my folks never let the true meaning of Easter be overshadowed by the Easter bunny. I feel fortunate to have such wonderful memories of a new special outfit to wear to church and coming home for a fantastic dinner and dessert! We always had the traditional egg hunt and a basket full of goodies too. As a mother with young children, I hope to instill the same values in them. As a child, the Lenten Season usually meant being sad and gloomy especially during Holy Thursday and Good Friday. It meant abstinence and penance and it was a time to make up for all the wrong done in the past. Nobody went out in the streets and you weren't allowed to take a bath on Good Friday because Christ died on that day. All of that changed when I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I now understand that nothing can be added to the finished work of Christ and that Easter is a day of liberation and freedom! His resurrection is the most powerful thing that has ever happened. It's no longer about my power to make things right. It's about His power to set us free. |
