'What Independence Means to Me'

by Joy Kuoha
Kuoha Designs, Ink!

On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born.  The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world. Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations.

The word “Independence” means more than just declaring our freedom as a country, it means that this freedom allows you and me to celebrate our own personal independence, and this means different things to everyone. For me, the fact that I can be an independent woman in this day and age, who has the right and privilege to vote for whomever I wish and speak for myself, is something very dear to my heart.

Another freedom I enjoy is the ability to work from home in any capacity that I choose, especially the

independence I have through working from home online and making money doing something I love. Having this independence means that I can support myself in a way that fits my family. No more traffic to fight with, and I certainly appreciate the commute - 20 steps from my bedroom!

As a designer, I am an independent business owner, and that comes with big tax breaks including write-offs for every piece of technology I use. My business has many perks, but the best one by far is the time I get to spend with my family. I love making my own schedule and not have to report to work at certain times for certain hours a day. Even though I am married to my full-time employed husband, we spend the majority of our waking hours together because I work from home.

Independence in my life choices are very important to me.

We asked the same questions to our community here. You can read what they say right ..... HERE
