HYBRID PROJECTS
A Storybook for My Granddaughter
written by Janet Nicklen aka Lovetodecorate

Since I am a child at heart, I am thrilled that fantasy digital scrapbook kits have come onto the market. What fun to design whimsical pages and to be able to choose the hero and/or heroine from one's very own photo stash. A dream came true for me with these kits as I have always wanted to write a story for my book worm Granddaughter, Danica. Now I not only have the chance to write a story but also am able to design a story book with her as the main character.

I found that the main requirement for doing my project was to complete several photo shots of full length photos of Danica at play in many different poses. Sometimes it is the most unlikely pose that will work well on a page. It is important to take photos from different angles, from the back, the side as well as the front. Than I digitally extracted Danica from the photo and placed her into her own little secret garden adventure.

I choose two main kits "Bouncing Brownies and Bunnies" and "Faerily Moonlit"by the talented designer Lorie Davison for my story book.  I am having so much fun modifying elements to make tables, hats, lamps as well as altering characters into different poses to suit my needs.

For added excitement and discovery, on each page, I added a "D" for Danica, a number, and a cute little bee designed by Kim B Designs as well as little characters peeking out from and hiding behind elements. I am certain that Danica will get much pleasure from searching for the items. I decided on a framed caption title as well as a few simple rhyming lines for the story so it is easy for a young child to understand.

I plan to print Dancia's book in an eight by eight inch format for ease of handling for a young child.  As well I will print a twelve by twelve inch book for myself which she will inherit when she is older as hers gets dog eared after repeated readings.

Since I started this project, I now have another Granddaughter so I know that I will be creating more fantasy story books in the near future. What adventure await, for me to create and for the children to see themselves in their very own story.
