I think the best Christmas gift I ever gave was to my Mom when I was in college. One weekend while I was home, I was watching a TV that had Carol Duvall segments (before she had her own show) and on it, she showed how to make those beautiful fabric covered padded albums. So we went out and bought all the makings for a bunch of them for her to give as gifts. I made them all!!!
My Mom "Ooooo'd" and "Awwww'd" over all of the albums I made for her friends. So, while at college until close to Christmas, I saved every spare penny I could and went and bought everything I needed to make an album for her.
She just LOVED it! and was impressed that a poor college student managed to get what she needed to make this gift!!

About 5 years ago we gave my in-laws a trip to Las Vegas. It was definitely one of the most exciting gifts to give. They'd been married about 30 years and had never taken a trip together that didn't involve visiting family....no vacation that was just about them.

My most memorable gift that I gave for Christmas was last year. My brother was returning from Iraq after 18 months, and I snapped a picture of him holding his wife. I had it blown big and framed.

My father died nearly 7 years ago. Many months afterward my mother was going through old pictures and found some of when she and Dad were dating. She had forgotten about them, since she had them packed away with things she never opened or looked at.
On a day she wasn't home, I went to the house, into her closet and found the box containing the pictures. I created a mini album for her containing those pictures. She was shocked and I didn't think she would ever stop crying.

For me, a great gift is one that makes the recipient cry and I managed that pretty spectacularly with my MIL and FIL. I organized my SILs (did about 90% of the work myself) and we sorted all my in-laws' old photos and made an album (traditional) that started with their childhoods and went all the way through the 90s. So the album covered about 50 years.

I think the best Christmas gift I gave was when I was in 1st grade. We made wreaths out of plastic garbage bag strips and wire hangers, then our teacher helped up put a bow on them. My Grandma hung that wreath every year until she died when I was 22. We tried to get her new wreaths, but she wouldn't have it. It still makes me all warm and fuzzy thinking about how Grandma hung my wreath every year.

My most memorable Christmas gift was Me. My Mom wasn't well and wanted all of her children home for Christmas. I lived 9 hours from home and my boss was adamant that I could not take off from work. Mom cried when I told her I could not be there. My coworkers found out how upset I was and went to the boss and offered to work my hours and not be paid overtime. She relented and we got to go home, but I only told my Dad we were coming. We walked in on Christmas eve and she started crying and it took a long time before she stopped. She died while we were there and I will always be grateful to the people that let me spend Christmas with her for one last time.

Last year I learned how to make quilts...During the whole year I made a lap quilt for each of the ten people on my list....that was so much fun...I also made one extra quilt and went to our local seniors home and asked the front desk which of the ladies did not receive much company through the year, they showed me her room, and I found her name was Pauline, I stayed for an hour visiting and gave her the lap quilt I had made for her, she was astounded that I would give this gift to her, and that it would probably be her only gift that year, it brought tears to my eyes to see the joy she took in her beautiful quilt, how she had it on her lap the whole visit, stroking it telling me how beautiful it was and tearing up. I felt wonderful to have brought such joy to a lonely person at Christmas.

I gave my husband a ukulele for Christmas a few years ago, and he taught himself how to play it (he already knew how to play the bass, so I guess that helped). He loves it and plays it every evening when he and I are finished eating dinner but the kids are still eating theirs. The kids and I sing along, it's silly but it's a nice family activity.

My husband would talk fondly of the old-school analog handheld football game he played as a kid. I never thought much of it until eBay became more ubiquitous. My very first eBay purchase was this game. He was so touched that I managed to find it that he got a little misty eyed when he opened it.
