Create Your Own CD Envelope

Written by Kitty Chen

Your daughter is having a birthday party and you have created a slide show as a gift. Your son was in a soccer match which won the game and you wanted to share the video you took with his team mates. You have created a portfolio for your new interview - what best way to do than to personalized your CD cover with your own design to represent your uniqueness!

I was recently in need to send my design portfolio to a digital store company. Trying to make a good impression was crucial in securing the deal so I came up with a creative idea for my art work presentation. I started with the packaging of the CD I was going to send.

Here's a simple tutorial on how to create the folder. You can download the template in TDSS store right [HERE].

What You Need to Start:
- scissors
- color printer
- papers
- a double sided foam tape

NOTE:
You need to get a minimum weight of 170gm paper for the envelope and a thinner paper of less than 170gm for the CD. This is to ensure a snuck fit when you add the CD into the envelope.

Instructions:
1. Download template for the envelope [HERE]
2. Start designing your envelope with your graphic software.
3. When done, print your design on appropriate paper. Thickness of paper is crucial. Click the top left image to see my printed template on paper
4. Fold the envelope along dotted line. Cut into shape and also the slits on both rounded half circles. The slits are to 'lock' the envelope together.
5. I printed an extra bubble text "for Sharon" and stick in on the envelope right on top of the printed one with a small strip of double sided foam tape. This gives a 3D effect for the envelope.

Viola! Your envelope is ready!
