TheDailyScrapper:
So you are saying in your case the high gas prices is actually contributing to a higher yield in your income. [both laughing] That's a good one. One of the few people who could see that whole thing very positively. [both laughing]
TheDailyScrapper:
Your color combination is unique. What are your ideas and inspirations?
ChereKaye:
I really love to look at the clothes my daughter wears. This inspires me a lot. She loves anything to do with pink so I think a lot of my kits have shades of pink in them. I also really love the Crate & Barrel catalog. I look at them a lot and get my inspirations from those.
TheDailyScrapper:
Do you also create scrapbook for your family or it is outright designing and selling through some stores?
ChereKaye:
I design for my own scrapbook first. I don't often post my pages online but I create a lot of things for my family that lives far away. Both my husband's and my parents are both in different states so I often times end up creating books or some hybrid projects for them and sending these projects with my daughter. Most of the time I use my products when I design. A lot of time when I am designing a kit I am making it with a specific project in mind so that I can send it to my family.
TheDailyScrapper:
What is the most rewarding part in designing?
ChereKaye:
I think there are two parts of it. I love to learn new things. I was a student in school that loved that process. I love to figure out how things work. The learning of Photoshop and just recently the thought of learning Illustrator is attractive to me. I am geek and I love to learn new things. The other part I love is seeing somebody use something that I made and making something with it. Whether it be a page or a card, it is so fun for me to sit and say 'Wow! I started that with blank pixel and now it's made into something really beautiful.' That is very rewarding for me.
TheDailyScrapper:
Assuming a fairy Godmother with a magic wand would appear and ask what you would want the software or hardware industry to produce for you. What would that be?
ChereKaye:
Hmmm... I probably would ask for a little bit more ease to making things like the texture of paint look more realistic, kind of raised. I think it probably can do that but I would like it to be a little more intuitive. Getting texture to look really realistic on a page takes the longest for me to do.
TheDailyScrapper:
Why do you think digital scrapbook designing isn't often perceive enough as serious work compare to other designers who simply create a little logo and charged a $100 or $200 without blushing and here you spent 3, 4 days on a kit and it become difficult to charge a reasonable amount for that? Why people still perceive it as a kind of hobby category?
ChereKaye:
I think because there are so many people who are trying to design now. The market is becoming very popular to even just try and there is so many commercial tools available that it is becoming easy to dabble in designing. I think as the digital designing world ages, some of that will fade and people with longevity will come out and talent will be seen. Right now so many people can create so many things so easily, it has become simple to find something for a little amount of money. It's very difficult for people who are spending a lot of time trying to learn new things and using their skills to make quality products to charge more because then they won't buy it. So I think the over saturation of the market is probably complicating the fact that we can't charge a lot of money for things.
TheDailyScrapper:
Where would we see you in 1, 2, 3 years from now? Which direction would you go and what would you consider the trend for the future?
ChereKaye:
I will continue to design. I have found a passion and it's something that is very possible with my family. I think you will see me continue to experiment with all kind of things. My last few kits have shown that I have done some different styles with different color scheme which was fun for me. I think you would see me leaning more towards things that I have done in Illustrator as I am learning that program and I am learning to love it. I'm loving to do my own art work, my papers and elements, and I hope to dabble in the paper industry, maybe being able to design some paper products. I'm here to stay and I love what I am doing.

The Coffee House Friends collection is definitely the project I am most proud of. I love the versatility of all the kits, and how they can stand alone or together, and I love that I was able to portray personalities with the designs. I had the MOST fun with this and enjoy working with the finished product the most of anything I’ve created.
