Who is the Mysterious
Miss Mint?

Interview by Claus-Dieter
Written by Alice Koh

We had the opportunity recently call Miss Mint, owner and designer of Peppermint Creative for an interview with TheDailyScrapper. Read about the inventor of the famous Miss Mint avatar and why she is so mysterious.

TheDailyScrapper:

How long has Peppermint Creative been online?
Miss Mint:
The store has been opened 2 years since April.

TheDailyScrapper:
How did you get the name Peppermint?
Miss Mint:
I was a freelance designer and already had a domain with this name because I like peppermint. At that time I didn't want to limit myself by saying 'Graphics' or 'Designs'  because I wasn't sure exactly what I would do. I wanted something big and broad so I went with 'Creative' and it just happen to also work with scrapbooking as well. I said, 'That would work' and I just stuck with it because I really did not think scrapbooking would be anything more than a hobby.

TheDailyScrapper:
Who is behind Peppermint Creative and how is it structured?
Miss Mint:
I am the sole owner of this site and have 15 design team working with me. I designed the layout and structure of the site and have a web developer working with me to develop, test and maintain it. The structured look of the site was developed from my frustration navigating and cruising around web pages. It took me about 6 months from the initial idea to getting Peppermint Creative online.

TheDailyScrapper:

Do you have any particular advertisement campaign?
Miss Mint:
No, nothing special. Only the blimp flying over Toronto that throws peppermints down to the crowd! [both laughing]

TheDailyScrapper:
You must have had some corporate experience.
Miss Mint:
Actually, I not much. I had a corporate job in an interactive media agency for about a year and that's it. I was sick for many years with Chrone’s Disease. I started freelancing out of necessity; I was just no longer able to go to work everyday. I did go to school for about 2 years doing advertising design and I learn a bit about marketing and how to create ads but the curriculum focused more on the creative side as opposed to the business side.

TheDailyScrapper:
Can you work outside the house now?
Miss Mint:
I had surgery in October and I am great now but I love what I do now too much to give it up. I can’t imagine finding something I enjoy more…plus the hours are pretty flexible and my boss is fantastic. [laugh]

TheDailyScrapper:
Who are your customers?
Miss Mint:
They are mainly if not all women. I seem to get quite a wide age range. Newlyweds to Grandma’s and everyone in between.

TheDailyScrapper:
As Peppermint Creative is based in Toronto, Canada, does this influence your design?
Miss Mint:
I don't think so. I design mostly for my customers, for what they asked for, for what they want.

TheDailyScrapper:
Your store not only sells digital designs but also hybrid projects and board books. What exactly is a board book?
Miss Mint:
A board book is a cardboard book that you would use to create any type of hybrid album. You can make a photo album almost like a little craft project out of it. In terms of digital scrapbooking, you would make your pages, shrink them down, print them out and glue them to the board book. You can also add real embellishments to it like flowers, ribbons, and buttons to give it some real dimension. It's a nice little gift to have, it's easy to make and affordable.
