Hybrid Card Tutorial

It's so fun to give handmade greeting cards to loved ones for any occasion: birthdays, holidays or just to say hello. I have been making my own cards for quite some time now, but it was only recently that I discovered how fun it is to think outside the box… box shaped cards, that is!  I was getting tired of the same old square and rectangle shapes, so I decided to try my hand at shaped cards (with a hybrid twist of course). Here's a tutorial that will walk you

through my process for creating a cute heart-shaped card.

Besides your computer, color printer and photo paper, you will need a few other supplies to get started, which I've listed below.

Supplies:
Digital Embellishments
Cardstock
Pen and Pencil (with an eraser)
Scissors and adhesive
Physical Embellishments, like flowers, jewels, etc.

NOTE:
see instructions below:

Instructions:

  1. Print out two digital flower embellishments (about 5.5" tall) onto photo paper, when dry, cut them out.
  2. Fold a piece of 8"x 6" cardstock in half to make a 4"x6" card. Starting at the folded edge of the card, draw half of a heart shape. Then draw a whole heart shape slightly overlapping the first heart (use a pencil so you can erase the lines later).
  3. With the card still folded, cut out the heart shapes (this will give you three hearts when the card is opened). Erase your pencil lines.
Use a pen to doodle borders around all three hearts and to write a greeting on the front of the card.
  4. Decorate the front of the card with flowers, gems and printed digital embellishments.

That's all there is to it! You can also try this technique with other shapes and embellishments.
