Easy Journaling and Story Telling
Written by Erika Martin
________________
For me, scrapbooking meshes 3 of my passions all together. Photography, art and storytelling. Where can you find all three together with such a wonderful outlet for each?
All photos hold a story. As a scrapbooker, I feel it's my job to tell the story behind my photo. |
|
"A picture is worth a thousand words," as the saying goes. Yes, it's WORTH a thousand words, but how often do we look at photo albums and know nothing about the photos because no one put the words with them? As I create scrapbooks with the photos I take, I make sure to tell the stories along with them so that some day, my kids and grandkids (and beyond) don't have to guess at those stories. I want to leave them a lasting legacy and record of those that went before them. So many times, I've looked at pictures in boxes that have been passed down to me from my grandparents and wondered who the people in those photos are. I wonder what their stories are. I'll never know because no one wrote them down. I don't want to do the same thing to the generations that will follow behind me.

Many people are intimidated by journaling. They don't know where to start or what to say. Here are some of my suggestions for easy journaling:
* One of the easiest ways to journal is to write like you were having a conversation with a person sitting next to you, looking at your photos with you. Just simply write what you would tell them if they were right there.
* Keep a small notebook in your purse or backpack to write down quick journaling prompts that you can look back on later to help jog your memory when you're creating your page later on.
* Rather than scrapbooking an "event" (something that happens year after year), scrapbook the feelings you felt during that event. It will take on a whole new form of storytelling.
