Amanda Thorderson
Digital Scrapbook Designer
Digital Scrapbook Pages

Queen of the Universe

interview by Claus-Dieter
and Alice Koh

The interview with Amanda was entertaining. She laughed a lot and has a vibrant personality. Read why the headline of her interview is titled "Queen of the Universe" and learn how she juggles her role as mom, part time work and being a digital scrapbook designer.

TheDailyScrapper:
Would you consider yourself a quick page designer or in overall a digital scrapbook designer?
Amanda:
A general digital scrapbook designer but there are so many people that don't have time to spend making their own pages that I found out they are appreciative of the quick pages I made available to them. They take so many pictures and to get them all scrapped takes a lot of time. So a lot of people just like using quick pages so they could get a lot more of their things done. With every kit that I made, I try to make quick pages, brag books and hybrid pages to go with it.

TheDailyScrapper:
So you are offering the people in the instant society the chance to paste their images behind your quick pages and get a very fast result.
Amanda:
Absolutely! I think scrapbooking is all about getting your memories down. You don't have to do everything yourself. If the way you get your memories down is by using quick pages, I don't see anything wrong with that as long as you are doing what you want to do and that's recording for your family.

Amanda and her family

TheDailyScrapper:
How long have you been a designer?
Amanda:
I'm coming up on 2 years this October.

TheDailyScrapper:
How did you get started?
Amanda:
A neighbor of mine said she did digital scrapbooking and I thought, "What on earth are you talking about?" So I looked it up and thought, "Oh my! This is the answer to the mess in my house. So I started scrapbooking, got on some creative teams and it kind of

took place from there. My husband is a Photoshop guru so we had every incarnation of Photoshop.

TheDailyScrapper:
Having a Photoshop guru in the house must be a huge help for you.
Amanda:
It's been really nice. He forced me to learn how to use it many years ago. I actually have never even thought about using it for digital scrapbooking and he kept trying telling me, "You should just scrapbook on the computer". I thought he wanted me to put the pictures on the slide show but when I looked at digital scrapbooking and saw all the amazing things that you can do, it was a homecoming for me.

TheDailyScrapper:
Do you use any digital pen in your design?
Amanda:
I have a Wacom tablet but my 19 year old son has fallen in love with that. Usually when I want to use it, it's hooked up to his computer so I am mainly using Photoshop. He is going away in about 2 months so I think I'll get my Wacom back. [both laugh] Not that I am looking forward to him leaving or anything. [laugh]

TheDailyScrapper:
What inspires you?
Amanda:
A couple of things inspire me. I just love colors. Anytime I'm out and get a great color idea from something, I'll take the pictures of all the fun colors I see. Usually I get one or two colors that I really want to work so and then come up the rest. I have a 2 year old daughter. The clothes that they make for 2 years old have some amazing color design in them. I get a lot of scrapbook ideas from that as well.

TheDailyScrapper:
What type of camera do you have?
Amanda:
We have a digital SLR and I have a Sony digital camera which I keep in my purse all the time. Sometimes it's not convenient to carry the big camera.

TheDailyScrapper:
So you are also part of a typical scrapbook family who takes lots of picture and nowadays takes a lot of close ups and textures.
Amanda:
[laugh] I actually take thousands of pictures of the family and I take a lot of textures and close ups. My 13 year old daughter has seen some of the close up things so now she takes the camera out. She's the one who likes to take pictures of grass, flowers, trees, the side walk and the sun, things like that so I just use her photos. [laugh]

TheDailyScrapper:
Going back to your quick pages, how many can you make with one kit?
Amanda:
It depends on the kit itself. I usually about 10-12 quick pages album. Some of the kits I could do quick pages really quickly but some of them ....
