Summer Fun - On a Budget
From Main Page

.... twice a year, but this year it will be a little different. “Usually she rents a cabin a couple of hours away, but this year she is going to try to rent a small farm house that is only 20 minutes away and is cheaper.”

Attending local activities is one way to save money at the pump while still getting those highly coveted summer photos of your family.  Carey states that one of her favorite “mini-vacations” is her monthly crop club. “It’s free, and it’s a time to hang out with other scrappers, a night to myself to indulge in my hobby, interruption-free! I always feel re-energized after crop night!”

Many digital scrapbookers say that one way they save is just by being digital scrapbookers. They say that they save money on gas (since they don’t have to go to the store to pick up materials) and feel like they are being environment-friendly by not creating extra paper waste. Digi-scrappers also feel like they are saving money on the products they buy. Missy, a hybrid scrapbooker, says that digital scrapbooking is a cheap alternative to paper scrapbooking for her because she can re-use her purchases.

Carina's graduation party

“Digital scrapbooking supplies are really low cost considering how many times they can be modified. Not to mention the awesome freebies and sales most designers offer!” she states.

Another way to get into the summer spirit is by hosting your own local parties. Garden parties, pool parties, barbeques, book clubs, in addition to crop nights are a great way to celebrate the summer and get some much needed vacation hours. The best part is that you don’t have to take time off work or spend a lot of time planning. Simple food and

great friends can make for some of the most memorable summer experiences.

These low cost activities are a great way to get through your summer on a budget, AND feel like you have really had some downtime. After all, the main thing is that you continue to capture those precious memories. In some ways, the budget crunch can help us all concentrate on what is most important—the time we spend together as friends and family—not the money that needs to be spent to make that happen. Some of the best moments happen at the kitchen counter, in the backyard, at family gatherings, and while working in the garden. These simple everyday moments can be captured in writing or by photos, but the most important thing is that you have them.
