Songbook
Submitted by Sandra Edwards

Watching other people creating one beautiful scrapping project after the other, inspired me to aim for something in the same lane. The idea to make a songbook came from the little person I was going to make it for, my little daughter Sofie. Hearing her learning one song after the other, made me think of how to preserve these wonderful memories for her the best way I could. Off course, videotaping her would seem like the obvious choice, but as I wanted to make something a little more artsy, scrapping a songbook was the perfect choice.

Choosing the songs wasn't a hard job, as there was a certain amount of songs she could sing along with. So me and my darling, Sofie's father, agreed on what songs to add, as we wanted this book to be from the both of us. On the first page of the book, I wrote a little message from me and her father, telling her when most of the photos in the book was taken, a little cute story about a "homemade" song her father has sung for her since she was newborn and that we hope that the book can mean something for her as she grows up. I also included a photo of me and her, and one of her father and her, labeled with the nicknames we have for her. I found it important to tell a little story for her, so she can understand our thoughts behind the book.

Then I went to the song pages. For the first time in my life, I made a plan for my creations, and I did not feel limited by it at all! I found it useful and helpful to have a plan. We made a list of songs for the book, and tried to find photos matching the songs as good as possible. But I did not make a list of photos to use, I found them as I created along the way. Extractions became a big part of the book. I found that by using photos extracted from its original setting, I could easier blend them into the page and make Sofie a natural part of the setting. The pages look more unique if you ask me. Then to the scrapping supplies. It became important to find elements and kits relating to the theme of the song. It wouldn't have felt so good to make a " ba ba black sheep" page, without a sheep, you know what I mean?
And for those of you noticing that there is no black sheep to be found in my page, there is no black sheep in the Norwegian version of the song!

And this way I went on from song to song, creating page after page, 20 in total. And when I had finished all of my pages, decided where to order my book from and clicked "submit" in the checkout section of the store, I felt the biggest pleasure I have ever felt in my "creative career". I FINISHED a project!

The songbook is made with and of pure love for our daughter. And the price for making it, is to see my daughters face light up in awe over the pages and the settings she finds herself in. To feel this inspired over something, is a feeling I would like everyone to get. To feel proud, to feel happy that you finished something, and the joy of looking at your own scrapping in a book, is beyond words for me!

This has just been the start for me, as I have loads of great ideas for other books to make, with different themes. The options are endless, I'd say. And I have already made plans for a songbook for Christmas, a cookbook, a nursery rhymes book and many more. I hope that with this little article, I could inspire you to make a songbook, or whatever book you would like to! The main thing is to DO it, make it and to get to feel what I feel now. PURE happiness over the creativity that lives in me!
